they were now walking back home in the middle of the night. scary experience for all girls. 
"you scared?" chris asked. unusually, there wasn't a teasing undertone in his question.
"no." she subconsciously gripped her purse closer.
with a sigh, he put his arm around her shoulder.
"what are you doing, chris?" 
it wasn't unusual for chris to be affectionate; it was no secret that physical touch was his love language. he has probably cuddled every single person in their friend group. 
however, chris wrapping his arm around her while walking? that's new. she was used to it only when sitting down and watching tv, or when she was invested in his fyp and he did it to pull her closer. there was nothing romantic between them at all. in fact, it was one of the most genuinely platonic relationships the world has ever seen.

well, it wasn't considered silence because chris was ranting about something and liyah completely zoned out. but to her, it was silence.
