Jungkook’s POV
We were about to do our first interview for our latest album. Taehyung was sitting next to me and we talked as we waited for the interviewer to come in. As she walked in I was laughing at a joke he had told me and I felt the tail end of the laugh get caught in my throat. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her as she greeted us, waving and smiling slightly. As we made eye contact I tried to return her smile without making it obvious that I had been gawking at her.
“It’s nice to meet you all! I’m Y/N, I’m the one who will be interviewing you today. I’ve actually been a fan for a while so I’m excited for today,” she introduced herself.
We all said hello as she went to take her seat. My focus stayed on her as she got ready and eventually started the interview. Focusing on her lips as they moved to form the words of her first question. On her the way the sides of her eyes crinkled up as she smiled at the answer she received. How cute and chubby her cheeks looked as a result of that same smile.
“Alright, the next question is for everyone. I’m sorry to ask this, because I’m sure you’re all sick of it but the fans have demanded I include it. So, what would you all say is your ideal type? Older, younger, is there a celebrity you’re particularly interested in?”
I wasn’t paying much attention to the other members answers until I heard my name mentioned.
“Jungkook likes IU. So his ideal type would probably be someone like her.” Jimin answered for me, looking over for my approval. I guess I had spaced out too much and not noticed it was my turn to answer. As an attempt to make it seem like I had been present during this interview, I nodded in agreement.
The crinkles in Y/N’s eyes didn’t appear this time as she smiled at my answer. As she looked down at her questions I felt like she even looked disappointed. For a moment I wondered what could have caused it. When I realized what may have been the cause I had to stop myself from grimacing. Y/N wasn’t like IU in terms of physical appearance. She was more soft compared to IU’s thin features. With thick thighs, a round tummy, and love handles that extended beyond her waist and hips.
Maybe it was narcissistic to assume her slight change in attitude was because of me. Maybe a small part of me was just hoping it was in the most selfish possible way. Wanted to think there was a chance that she liked me even with all the other members around for her to be interested in. It was true that I liked IU. It was also true that I found Y/N very attractive. But, I worried that she had taken my interest in IU to mean that I wouldn’t be interested in someone with her body type.
Impatiently, I waited for the interview to finish so I could have a chance to talk to her. Holding back from sighing in relief when she announced the that she was on the last question. After we answered and she closed out the interview I quickly went over to talk to where she was now standing.
“Uh, hi!” I greeted awkwardly.
She smiled as she responded, “Hey! I hope the questions weren’t too boring.”
Her smile make my heart race a little faster, “No, you were great! I had fun.”
“That’s great to hear!” She said.
“I was wondering…” I trailed off, losing my nerve and allowing my voice to trail off as my gaze fell to my shoes.
“Wondering…?” She urged me to finish.
I took a deep breath and made another attempt, “Would you want to hang out sometime? With me? In a… more… romantic setting?”
When I finished and finally looked into her eyes again she looked shocked and I felt panic stir inside me. “Oh, you look shocked. I’m so sorry! I t-thought…maybe you were interested in me. You’re really gorgeous and I was hoping… never mind. I’m sorry, I’ll -”
“Jungkook,” she cut me off, “I’m sorry to cut you off but you’re kind of rambling and I didn’t get a chance to respond. The reason I looked surprised was because I assumed IU was your style and I certainly look nothing like IU.”
“I know, but you’re still gorgeous and you seemed really nice. And funny. So… would you want to? Hang out, that is,” I asked, feeling hopeful.
“Sure, I’d like that.” she replied.
As I asked her to put her number in my phone I was beaming. She gave me a wide smile in return, the crinkles next to her eyes appearing once more. When she finished she leaned up and gave me a kiss on the cheek. My smile grew impossibly wider as I said goodbye and practically ran back over to the boys who all asked me what had happened.
